UPSRTC moves Delhi HC

THE TUSSLE between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh over plying of buses to and fro reached the court on Thursday.

The UP State Transport Corporation moved the Delhi High Court seeking directions to Delhi Government to allow its fleet to enter the national capital for fuel re-filling.

The UPSTRC petition, which will come up for hearing on Friday, before a Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Ghambir, said a large number of buses were lying idle due to lack of CNG gas causing great hardship for commuters, especially from Delhi, Noida and Greater Noida regions.

In its petition impleading the NCT government and its Transport Department, the UPSTRC said its Delhi counterparts were acting in contravention of an agreement inked between the two States on August 2, 2004, allowing buses to ply in Delhi from all over UP.

The petition said it had purchased a fleet of over a 100 CNG-fitted buses in pursuance of the agreement only to have them seized by the Delhi authorities,
which had refused entry into its territory for even re-filling purposes.

Submitting that though the buses were introduced under a policy initiative to improve public transport infrastructure in the two regions, especially Noida, the UPSRTC claimed the vehicles were instead lying idle, leading to physical damage and heavy loss to public exchequer.
