RWA protests scuttle shooting of Amitabh-Tabu starrer in Gurgaon

When the cast and crew of Chini Kum- Amitabh Bachhan and Tabu included - turned up at the exclusive Malibu Towne estate here early on Friday, the reception they got was, well, bitter.

Members of the township’s Resident Welfare Association were not impressed with the crew’s contention that they had taken permission from the builders - Malibu Towne Estate Ltd (MTEL).

‘’It was an encroachment of our privacy. The film crew had not taken permission from the RWA. So we decided unanimously against letting them shoot here,'’ RWA President Prabhakar Shrivastav told Newsline today.

The crew had reached the township in two-dozen cars around 5 am on Friday. RWA members started raising objections soon after Producer Sunil Manchanda started directing his crew to build a set. ‘’Till midnight there was nothing. All of a sudden in the morning, we saw this set coming up,” says Rajesh Shukla, another RWA member.

As residents assembled, Tabu arrived in her Honda city followed by Bachhan, wearing a white track suit, in his brown Honda Accord. Both stars were sitting in the make-up van when RWA members questioned the crew regarding the permissions.

“In the past, the movie, Fight Club, and a television serial was shot here after permission from MTEL, but without intimating the RWA. The production managers said Amitabh Bachhan would not give them a new date soon but we decided to put our foot down. The crew had to leave without shooting,'’ says Shukla.

RWA members said that their protests were an expression of their anger against the ‘’poor maintenance'’ of the township. ‘’They promised us American-style apartments as in California’s Malibu Town. But nothing is being done to maintain the township,'’ says Shrivastav. METL officials were not available for comment.
