P’kula councillors’ delegation now meets Haryana CM

A DELEGATION comprising five members including Municipal Councillor and city Congress president R K Kakkar and Councillor Mohinder Singh today met Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Chandigarh. The councillors sought Hooda’s intervention in the controversy-marred elections for the post of Panchkula Municipal Council chief. Manveer Kaur Gill has been appointed the new MC chief.

The delegation also met the OSD to Chief Minister Dr K V Singh and the state working president of Congress party Dr Ram Prakash. According to sources, the delegation has been assured justice.

The delegation reportedly criticised the role played by Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan in Gill’s election. The Congress party has suffered major rift after her election, sources said.

Sources added that the councillors have been asked to meet Dr Ram Prakash on Wednesday and give in writing their complaint and the number of Congress councillors supporting them.

Meanwhile, the district administration is under increasing pressure from the councillors of the rival group on the question of notification of the MC election result. The election was held on May 19.

The notification of the election by the Government would favour the newly-elected president. In this scenario the protesting councillors would be left with no choice but to approach the Court to intervene in the matter, a Councillor said.
