HUDA-like rural devp authority soon

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced the setting up of a Haryana Rural Development Authority on the pattern of Haryana Urban Development Authority which would carve out sectors in state villages having population of more than 10,000.

Hooda said this while addressing the sarpanches, panches and chairmen and vice chairmen of Panchayat Samitis at his residence here today. While referring the decentralisation of power, the Chief Minister said that the state government had taken a number of steps to strengthen the panchayati raj institutions in the state. In this direction, honorarium of Rs 1,000 per month had been given to a sarpanch of every village besides the power to keep cash in hand had also been increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.

He said that the people having more than two children had been allowed to contest the elections of panch and sarpanch by making amendments in the existing law. The CM maintained that the government had taken a number of steps to strengthen the rural infrastructure and for the first time 1,000 villages in the state had been identified which would be provided Rs 10 lakh additionally to ensure their all-round development. A sum of Rs 40 crore had been earmarked for the construction of stadia in the rural areas to boost sports activities, he said.

Hooda said that a sum of Rs 60 crore had already been released for the repair of schools. A provision of Rs 9 crore had also been made for the repair of veterinary hospitals and other allied buildings in the rural areas. He said there was a need to create such a hygienic environment in the villages that the people did not migrate from villages to urban areas.
