Haryana Tourism to boost Wedding Tourism

After working on developing Highway Tourism, Haryana now plans to promote Wedding Tourism. This will be done following the concept of its neighbouring state Rajasthan. The Haryana Tourism Department aims to attract Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and foreign tourists to hold a `Royal Wedding’ in some of the historical sites of the state. According to a recent decision by the state government, the famous Pinjore Garden located on the Chandigarh-Shimla Highway will be made available for holding wedding ceremonies.” By allowing the use of historical sites for weddings, the department aims to brand itself globally. This concept has also been mooted in order to generate more revenue, similar to the model of Rajasthan Tourism.

Keshni Anand Arora, Commissioner and Secretary, Tourism Haryana, said, “The decision has been taken in view of the growing popularity of Wedding Tourism in the country. To boost the potential of tourism industry, the state Tourism Department will be branding itself globally on the line of Kerala, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand. If we provide all the requisite facilities for the NRI segment and foreign tourists to hold a `Royal Wedding’ in the state, we will make our presence felt in the world tourism map.”

The famous Pinjore Garden used to be the centre for royal weddings in the past. Earlier, the garden was not available to the public for organising marriage functions. Now the government has decided to make it available. The garden was an attractive tourist place like the royal palaces of Rajasthan. “The garden has been planned artistically and appears similar to the Shalimar Bagh of Srinagar. The availability of the garden for wedding functions will attract foreign tourists and NRIs for weddings,” claimed Arora.
