Haryana to set up spl fund for slum dwellers’ welfare

With elections round the corner, Haryana Government decided to create a separate fund to deliver services to the poor and slum dwellers, and approved introduction of two bills in this regard.

Today&aposs cabinet meeting decided to create a separate fund named&apos Service to the Poor Fund&aposfor the initiative and approved two separate bills to amend the Haryana Municipal Act, 1973 and the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, an official release said here.

The fund will be raised by way of any rent, tax, fine, rate or cess on any person or any property situated in slum area or any grant received from the Central/ State or any other agency for development of slum area, besides other sources.

The fund would be utilised to promote services to the poor and slum dwellers.

Municipal Committees and Corporations would ensure that at least 20 per cent of the total revenue income, or 20 per cent of the revenue expenditure or 25 per cent of the total capital expenditure, whichever is maximum, is incurred on delivery of the services to the section per annum.

Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in February next year.
