Haryana Panchayats sign MOU for Jatropha cultivation
Altogether 52 Gram Panchayats falling under five Panchayat Samitis of this district today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with D-1 Oils India Private Limited Company to cultivate Jatropha over 1130 acres of barren land.

The memorandum was signed in the presence of Union Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar as a part of the programme to set up Rural Business Hubs based on bio-diesel for economic development of Panchayats.

While the Director of the Company, Mr Sarju Singh signed on behalf of D-1 Oils India Private Limited Company, Chairman and Chairpersons of the five Panchayat Samitis signed on behalf of the respective Panchayat Samitis.

Those who signed for the Samitis included Mrs Javantri Devi, Chairperson, Bilaspur Panchayat Samiti, Mr Shyam Singh, Chairman, Chhachrauli Panchayat Samiti, Mrs Surinder Kaur, Chairperson, Jagadhari Panchayat Samiti, Mr Karambir Singh, Chairman, Radaur Panchayat Samiti and Mr Rupender Singh Chahal, Chairman, Sadhaura Panchayat Samiti.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Aiyar complimented the Gram Panchayats for the MoU signed by them to provide alternative fuel.

He said that it was necessary to ensure participation of the common man in the process of development. He said that today the country has 32 lakh representatives of the people and these included 12 lakh women.

He also urged the farmers to diversify their crops and take up cultivation of Jatropha. He assured them all cooperation in the marketing of seeds of Jatropha and its oil.

The Union Minister of State for Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation, Ms Shelja who was also present said that after the signing of the MoU, the Panchayats would not face any difficulty in marketing of seeds and oil of Jatropha. She said that the present state government had ushered a new era of overall development in the State.
