Haryana announces sops for journalists

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Friday announced several sops for media persons in the form of reserved housing and higher insurance cover.

Accredited journalists will be acknowledged as professionals like advocates for allotment of plots in urban estates developed by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).

The chief minister said plots would be reserved for journalists in all housing schemes floated by HUDA. They will also be entitled to apply for reserved plots in the group-housing category, he added.

insurance cover for accredited journalists has been raised from Rs.100,000 to Rs.250,000. Other concessions to media persons include free bus travel up to 4,000 km per year instead of 2,500 km.

The government said that in view of the changing work scenario of journalists, contract journalists would be allowed the facility of accreditation at the state and district headquarters.

The government will also give accreditation to journalists in Delhi.
