Cong retains Indri seat in Haryana, margin declines

Ruling Congress retained the Indri Assembly seat in Karnal district of Haryana with its candidate Bhim Sen Mehta winning by a margin of 5,865 votes at the end of counting on Sunday, official sources said.

Mehta wrested the seat from Rakesh Kamboj, who had won in the assembly elections four years back. Kamboj was disqualified recently after he joined the Haryana Janhit Congress- BL floated by former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal’s son Kuldeep Bishnoi in December last year.

Mehta had contested as an Independent last time and lost to Kamboj by a margin of 19,578 votes. The Congress with Mehta as its nominee in the bye-election won with much lesser margin of 5,865 votes.

Om Parkash Chautala led INLD nominee Ashok Kashyap finished third securing 27,900 votes in the contest in which there were total of 13 candidates in fray.
