‘Centre unfair to Kerala on Vizhinjam port’

Former Kerala chief minister A K Antony said the Centre was not being fair to Kerala by delaying security clearance to the Rs43.6bn Vizhinjam Port project. However, he said the Manmohan Singh government’s attitude towards Kerala was far better than its predecessors.

“Compared to all other federal governments in the country, it is without doubt that the present government has shown the best attitude to Kerala. But it has been slow on taking a decision on the Vizhinjam Port. All the Kerala lawmakers in Delhi are making serious efforts to pressurise the Centre,” Antony told reporters.

The fate of Vizhinjam Port is left hanging in mid-air, as the Centre has refused to give security clearance because a consortium of two Chinese firms and an Indian construction company had won the tender.
