Centre alerts Delhi, Haryana to check spread of Gujjar violence

The union home ministry has alerted Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to beef up security so that violence does not spread to these states which have a sizeable Gujjar population.

Following tension in parts of these three states in the wake of large-scale violence by Gujjars in Rajasthan, where several persons have been killed, the Centre has asked for measures to be taken to maintain law and order.

These states have also been advised to take other measures, like holding talks with leaders of different sections of the society, for maintaining law and order, said a spokesman.

The MHA had already dispatched over 2,000 personnel of central forces and assured the state that some more forces would be sent when Rajasthan made a demand for 1,500 more personnel.
