Thefts on the rise in Gurgaon

WITH theft incidents on the rise in Gurgaon and security arrangements negligible, residents are having sleepless nights. In less than a week, there have been more than six thefts in the city.

Former Municipal Council chairman Dirham Parkash’s residence in Ashok Vihar was targeted last night. The family today found jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh, some electronic items, and cellphones missing.

“The theft probably took place after midnight, because the family was awake till late,” said Dirham. The family had shifted to the house three months back.

Another theft took place in a Sector 30 house late last night from where the thieves decamped with jewellery worth lakhs and electronic items.

Today, there was a daylight theft in a Block U house in DLF Phase III, when the owners, P.K. Mehra and his wife, were not present. According to Mehra, jewellery worth lakhs, Rs 30,000 cash and household items like TV, VCD, laptop and other items were stolen. Though DLF has a 24-hour security of its own, a number of robberies have taken place in the last few months.

Yesterday, two houses in Hope Apartments in Sector 15, Part II, were also burgled during the day.

On August 28, there was a theft in Gold Souk, which boasts of fullproof security with CCTVs all over the premises and a police post outside. Three girls on the Adora Jewellery counter gave the salesman a slip and took away a gold bracelet. The police have registered cases, but there has been no headway in any of the cases.
