Haryana: ACP for sugar mill employees

HARYANA CHIEF Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, yesterday (September 28) announced that the benefit of assured career progression (ACP) will be given to those employees of the sugar mills in Haryana, who had no promotion channel and have completed 10 years and 20 years of service on the same post.

The chief minister was addressing a largely attended Abhinandan Samaroh organised by the employees of Haryana sugar mills. He also announced that the retaining allowance of the unskilled workers of the mills would be increased from the existing 25 per cent to 35 per cent and of the semi skilled workers from 35 per cent to 40 per cent.

Hooda also assured that while implementing the recommendations of sixth pay commission, the government would take care that the employees of sugar mills get the same benefits, which would be given to the employees of other cooperative institutions. The sugar mill authorities would be allowed to recruit employees on daily wages against the vacant posts for smooth running of the mills, he said.

He recalled that on November 18, last year, the employees of sugar mills were given the same benefits, which were given to other government employees. Fifty per cent of their dearness allowance was merged in their basic pay and it benefited the employees by around Rs 5.52 crore, he said and added that the employees also got additional benefit of Rs 1.83 crore during last crushing season after launching of the new incentive schemes for the mill employees.

In comparison to 101 per cent in Punjab and 88 per cent in Uttar Pradesh, Hoda claimed that the cooperative sugar mills in Haryana had run on 106 per cent capacity, which was a record of last seven years. The sugar recovery was also at 9.59 per cent during 2007-08 crushing season and it was 0.39 per cent more in comparison to the recovery achieved during 2006-07 season. He disclosed that the national confederation of sugar mills had announced first prize to Shahbad Cooperative Sugar Mill for sugarcane development and second prize to Cooperative Sugar Mill, Palwal for financial management during 2005-06. These awards to the mills would be given in New Delhi on November 29, he added.

In order to strengthen the financial positions of the sugar mills, the state government sanctioned a proposal for changing a loan of Rs 284.62 crore in share capital and waived off the interest of Rs 181 crore on these loans, the chief minster said and claimed that it had brought improvement in the financial positions of the mills.
