Power: Gurgaon offers out of court clearing

Carrying on with its spree of designs to tackle electricity shortage in the IT city, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has now offered an ‘out of court settlement scheme’. Meant for all consumers involved in litigation with the power department, the scheme is available till July 31.

Officials said the scheme would also include cases where DHBVN has levied penalty for non-payment of power bills, though it would not pull in power theft cases.

For settling a case out of court, consumers need to pay 50 per cent of the amount initially assessed, along with simple annual interest of 15 per cent on unpaid amount of the reduced amount.

In cases where unauthorised load detected results in change of category from Low Tension (LT) to High Tension (HT) industrial, LT surcharge at prescribed rate of 25 per cent of Sale of Power (SOP) is payable. This is besides the amount charged under the scheme.

Where the court case is regarding surcharge levied and principal amount has already been paid, consumers can settle the case by paying simple interest at 15 per cent per annum from the date of charging the amount till date of payment of principal amount.
