Haryana proposes entry tax

Haryana government proposes to introduce entry tax in the state and is considering bringing in a bill in this regard during the current budget session of the state assembly.

State finance minister Birendra Singh disclosed this while replying to a supplementary question on Local Area Development Tax (LADT) in the state assembly today.

He said the entry tax was proposed to be introduced in lieu of the LADT.

He said that LADT was levied and collected on entry into local area of all goods, except those given exemption. But the LADT was challenged in the Supreme Court, which has stayed collection of the tax, the minister said.

He said Rs 38 Crore was realized in the current year against the expected revenue of Rs 350 Crore due to the stay on collection granted by the Supreme Court.

Noisy scenes were witnessed in the house as the ruling Congress and the opposition INLD were locked in a heated exchange over allegations that FIRs had been lodged against Gopal Goyal, said to be close to Om Prakash Chautala, on the charge of attacking an income tax party which had raided his premises.

It intensified when Karan Singh Dalal, an MLA, made allegedly personal remarks against INLD President Om Prakash Chautala, infuriating INLD members who walked out raising anti-government slogans.
