Haryana probes death of Pakistani inmate

The Haryana government has launched a probe into the death of Pakistani man Khalid Mahmood in a jail in Bhondsi last month.

Mahmood’s family has alleged that he was wrongly jailed for spying and was tortured to death.

Mahmood, 30, died on February 12, but his family in Pakistan was only informed on March 4.

After Islamabad asked for an explanation, the Home Ministry asked Haryana for a report on the death.

The probe team has seized all documents related to Mehmood’s arrest and his medical treatment in captivity.

Haryana state government has to send a detailed report on the death to the Home and Foreign ministries next week.
