Haryana presents over Rs 7-cr surplus budget

The Haryana government on Tuesday presented a Rs 7.01-crore surplus budget for 2008-09.
Presenting his fourth budget in the State Assembly, Finance Minister Birendra Singh proposed abolition of value added Tax (VAT) on sanitary napkins, diapers and selected toys, besides reduction in VAT on energy efficient tube light chokes.

The minister proposed levying user charges on cable operators using electric poles besides imposing surcharge on cable operators for display of advertisements on cable network. Annual plan for next fiscal has been fixed at Rs 6,650 crore.

The revenue deficit, however, would be Rs 433.58 crore. The total receipts would be Rs 25,987.40 crore and expenditure has been proposed at Rs 26,420.98 crore.
