Metro to reach Gurgaon 6 months early, by Jan 2010

Metro will reach Gurgaon earlier that expected. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to advance its deadline for completion of the Gurgaon project from July 2010 to January the same year.

However, Noida will be the first city in the NCR to get a Metro link (by June 2009), DMRC chief public relation officer Anuj Dayal said. Since the MoU between the UP government and DMRC on the Ghaziabad extension could not be signed as yet, this extension had slipped to Phase-III now, Dayal added.

The DMRC officials said the advancement of the completion date was done at the request of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda who wanted the metro to reach Gurgaon by January 2010. State government officials said Hooda wanted metro to be operational before his tenure ends in mid-2010.

“We have told the Haryana chief minister that we would complete the work on Gurgaon Metro line by January 2010. This line would be completed even before the other portion between Qutab Minar to Arjan Garh in Delhi,” Dayal said.

The actual work had begun on the project early this year. According to Daljit Singh, the chief project manager, DMRC, the civil work in Gurgaon had been complete to the tune of 35 per cent.

The cost of constructing 7.05 km Gurgaon stretch with five metro stations has been estimated at Rs. 570 crore.
