The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered police protection for Telugu super star Chiranjeevi’s newly married daughter Srija and her husband Sirish Bharadwaj in view of their perceived “threat to their lives” after she married Sirish against the wishes of her family.
Justice S. N. Dhingra ordered protection for the newlyweds when counsel for the couple sought security.
The young couple, who were present in the Court, said there was no specific threat to them as they had not received any threatening calls.
However, they added, they had to change several vehicles during their journey to Delhi from Hyderabad fearing kidnapping.
Counsel for Mr. Chiranjeevi informed the Court that the actor had told the media there was no threat to his daughter and son-in-law from him or his family and he wished them a happy married life.
However, Mr. Justice Dhingra wanted Mr. Chiranjeevi to appear in the Court and record his statement giving his consent to the marriage.
Counsel sought time to take instructions from his client. The Judge then directed the Delhi police to ensure protection for the newlyweds till October 29, the next date of hearing.
As the couple had not mentioned their address in Delhi for fear of publicity, the Court directed them to provide the same to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, so that he could deploy security men.
Srija later told reporters she was happy that her father had informed the Court that he had no objection to her marriage.
