Bullet fired at Delhi MP’s car

An unidentified man fired at a car carrying Congress MP from Delhi Krishna Tirath on Wednesday night but she escaped unhurt, police sources said.

The incident took place on Link Road near Jhandewalan Metro station in Central Delhi at around 8 pm when Tirath, Lok Sabha MP from Karol Bagh, was going back to her residence along with her husband, who was on the wheels, after attending a meeting.

“An unidentified man fired a bullet at her,” a senior police official said adding “it hit the vehicle.” An FIR was filed at the Mandir Marg police station by the MP.

“I am safe. The incident happened in the Link Road in Karol Bagh. I did not see anybody firing at the car. But there is a hole on the side of the car which was driving by my husband,” Tirath said.

Asked whether she suspected any one for the attack, Tirath said she has no enemy. “I am in politics for the last 25 years. All are my friends.”

However, police have not recovered any bullet from the incident site nor made any arrest. Police sources also do not rule out the possibility of car being hit by a stone. Deploring the incident, DPCC president J P Aggarwal said the incident was a matter of concern.
