A young man and a teenaged girl, said to be in love with each other, committed suicides by reportedly consuming poison at their south Delhi homes, the police said Thursday.Neelu, 20, and Khushboo, 17, both residents of Sangam Vihar area, were Wednesday rushed to the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) separately by their parents after they reportedly consumed poison.
According to police sources, Neelu, who worked as mechanic, came to his house around 3.00 in the afternoon and after having lunch complained of severe stomachache.He was rushed to the AIIMS, where he died three hours later.Khushboo, who broke her Ramadan fast in the evening, also reportedly consumed poison and was admitted to the same hospital. She died after battling for life for two hours.
The police swung into action after an unknown caller informed them about the incidents Thursday morning. By that time the two victims’ parents were preparing for their funeral and taking the bodies for the last rites.The police have taken both bodies into their custody and sent them for the post mortem examination.’We are awaiting for the medical reports to know the cause of the deaths. But preliminary investigations point towards a love affair and the duo might have ended their lives in consultation with each other,’ said a senior police official.
