A 22-year-old girl was allegedly raped twice by a policeman in sector-17 after she went to the police chowki to lodge a complaint about her lost mobile handset.
The first rape took place on August 11 and the second on August 13. The victim told Times City that it took her long to initiate action against the rapist as everyone discouraged her from taking the step. “I don’t care. He has spoilt my life and I can’t get back the ‘honour’ that I have lost. My aim is to ensure that he gets the maximum punishment,” she said.
According to the victim, the accused head constable Pawan first raped her around 11 pm on August 11, after telling her that she had to visit the police chowki for immediate investigation. On August 13, he entered her house in Sukhrali, Part-II, and raped her again.
“After I lost my mobile on August 11, I went to the police chowki in the evening where I met Pawan, who was the head constable posted there. A couple of policemen came to the place where I was planning to start a beauty parlour and where I had lost my mobile. They talked to people there and left,” she said.
Later, about 11 pm Pawan came to her place and asked her to accompany to the police chowki. “He told me it was regarding the investigation of my lost mobile phone. However, instead of taking me to the chowki, he took me to a bushy area and told me that someone was coming,” she recollected.
The girl, who shifted to Gurgaon from Kalkaji only two months ago, said that when, growing suspicious of the constable, she started screaming, he gagged her wtih a handkerchief.
“I went to the police station next morning to lodge a complaint but Pawan came in my way and threatened to frame a case against me if I brought the incident to the notice of the other policemen. I got frightened and returned. On August 13 he came to my place and raped me again,” she lamented. Significantly, the victim said that there was no woman constable at the chowki on the night of August 11.
This is after Haryana police chief, R S Dalal, had promised that all police stations in Gurgaon would get women police constables to make them women-friendly.
DCP (west) Maharaj Singh said that the accused constable has been suspended. “There will be departmental action against him followed by criminal proceedings.
Our man is at fault and this will not be tolerated,” he said. The victim also said she will fight the battle. “My parents do not know of all this, except that I had lodged a compliant against Pawan. Now it does not matter whether anyone supports me or not,” she said.
