The Delhi High Court today issued notices to the L-G and Delhi Police on a petition filed by the son of a suspended police inspector, Devendra Manchanda, who allegedly committed suicide.
Justice A K Sikri, while admitting the petition filed by Prashant, whose father allegedly committed suicide on October 13 due to alleged harassment by senior police officials as well as ministry officials, sought the records pertaining to the suspension of the deceased.
The High Court bench issued notices to the Lieutenant-Governor, Delhi, and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mukherjee Nagar Police Station based on the petition.
The matter will now come up for further hearing in the court on November 20.
Prashant’s petition was last week mentioned before the Division Bench, which directed that it be taken up by the regular court.
R K Kapoor, appearing on behalf of Prashant, contended that the officials were “unwilling to register an FIR against the police chief even though a complaint was lodged with the Mukherjee Nagar Police Station on October 16.
The petitioner also appended a copy of the suicide note, in which, Manchanda claimed that “he was forced to commit suicide because of criminal intimidation by Police Commissioner, Dr K K Paul.
The petitioner sought direction from the court to the Station House Officer concerned to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the Police Commissioner, Dr KK Paul, as per the complaint.
