AS many as ten Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) will be made centers of excellence and Rs 1.60 crore will be spent on each ITI for upgrading the machinery and introducing new trades which cater to the needs of today’s industry.

This was disclosed in a meeting presided over by the Commissioner Rohtak Division, N C Wadhwa, who is the chairman of Rohtak Industrial Training Society constituted by the state government to look after the working of the local ITI. Deputy Commissioner R S Doon is vice chairman and principal J S Nain is member secretary of this society. The ten ITI to be made into centres of excellence are those at Rohtak, Karnal, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Sirsa, Narwana, Rewari and Hisar. The Rohtak and Gurgaon ITIs have been adopted by Maruti Company Limited. The principal of the ITI has been authorised to spend upto Rs 50,000 and expenditure above this could be incurred with the permission of the chairman of the society. This would remove any inordinate delay in purchase or implementation of work. In today’s meeting, four sub-committees were formed for choosing the most sought-after trades, their curriculum, upgradation of infrastructure and placement of students.

The commissioner authorised the Institute Management Committee (IMC) headed by the Deputy Commissioner to finalise the budget demand for upgradation of training equipments and purchase of machinery. Rajiv Khurana said that Maruti had engaged a consultancy agency to finalise the syllabi and machinery required.
